This part of Indus flotilla was called Punjab flotilla and the Indus flotilla Interchangebly.
- The Port Muhammad Bin Qasim
It is also known as Port Qasim, is a seaport in Karachi, Pakistan on the coastline of the Arabian Sea. It is Pakistan’s second busiest port, handling about 35% of the nation’s cargo (17 million tons per annum).
Port Qasim and Karachi Port, the busiest port of country, together handle more than 90% of all external trade of Pakistan. The port encompasses a total area of 12,000 acres wherein many industrial zones operate. In addition to the Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) and KESC Bin Qasim Power Plant, around 80% of the Pakistan’s automotive industry is located at Port Qasim.
The port also provides direct waterfront access to two major nearby industrial areas, Export Processing Zone (Landhi) and Korangi Industrial Area. Approximately 60% of country’s export and import is originated from these areas. Port Qasim is managed by Port Qasim Authority, a semi-autonomous government body.
- Gwadar Port
Is a deep-sea, warm-water port situated at Gwadar in Balochistan province of Pakistan at the apex of the Arabian Sea and at the entrance of the Persian Gulf, about 460 km west of Karachi and approximately 75 km east of Pakistan’s border with Iran.
The port is located at 25°06′45″N 62°20′19″E / 25.1125°N 62.33861°ECoordinates: 25°06′45″N 62°20′19″E / 25.1125°N 62.33861°E.The Port is located on the eastern bay of a natural hammer-head protrusion of land jutting out into the Arabian Sea from Pakistan’s Makrancoastline.
The Port is being constructed in two phases with heavy investment from China. Technical and financial feasibility studies were commenced by Pakistan in 1993 but construction did not start until 2002 when the Port of Singapore Authority was hired for its management.
Gwadar Port became operational in 2008, with the first ship to dock bringing 52000 tonnes of wheat from Canada. Minister of Ports and Shipping Sardar Nabil Ahmed Khan Gabol officially inaugurated the port on 21 December 2008.
- Keti Bandar
It is a former port on the Arabian Sea, in the Thatta District, Sindh, Pakistan.Keti Bandar was once one of the richest ports in the region, but ceased operations in 1935. The port was built on the remains of the older seaport of Debal where Muhammad bin Qasim and his army arrived from Iraq.
The former port facilities bordered both shores of the Indus River delta but have become submerged as a result of coastal erosion, leaving only a thin, 2km long isthmus by way of a land bridge to the mainland.
The signs of a prosperous past are still visible, such as the crumbling pillars of a vast villa that belonged to a Hindu village head. All that remains at the site today are a few hundred fishermen’s huts, made of straw-mat walls and thatched roofs.
